Ron Miller may not be a household name, but in Gundaroo, he is ‘the voice’ of the
Telstra Gundaroo Bush Festival, Sunday 9 November 10am – 4 pm.
Seasoned Master of Ceremonies, Ron Miller, explains in this Audio News Release (ANR) a little bit of the history of the festival and how it has changed over recent years. Ron Miller says that one key thing hasn’t changed, and that’s the enthusiasm of the town’s people to work hard at making their town great for the future.
“Gundaroo is not like other places in that it is the local villagers who own and pay for the up-keep of key buildings,” said long time Gundaroo resident, Ron Miller.
“Buildings like the Gundaroo Soldier’s Memorial Hall, are kept in great shape by the generosity of the volunteers who pour hundreds of hours of labour in to renovating and maintaining. Events like the Telstra Gundaroo Bush Festival are important for raising money to keep buildings like the hall in good nick.”
“It’s great the festival is returning to its roots of being a street festival. People can get a great appreciation for the history of the town when they walk our main street on Sunday,” says Ron Miller. “When you look at one of our old buildings, look at it knowing that it was probably standing well before anything you see in Canberra today – including the Old Parliament House.”
The Gundaroo Bush Festival is proudly organised by the Gundaroo village community and is non-profit. All proceeds go to local charities.
The Festival has been in existence now for more than 10 years. Every year is different, but the community and Aussie bush spirit, and the sense of fun remain the same.
